Message From Marli Ovarian Cancer Foundation To Hold South Florida Fishing Tournament June 11

June 9, 2011 - PRLog -- MIAMI – Message From Marli Foundation, Inc. (MFM), a nonprofit organization focused on national ovarian cancer awareness, is proud to announce a cross-promotional and synergistic long-term alliance with www.ladiesletsgofishing.com (LLGF) that kicks off with the 2011 Dolphin Fishing Tournament and Community Fish Fry at Tom’s NFL in Miami Springs on June 11. LLGF is a national organization dedicated to attracting more women to sport fishing, as well as promoting conservation and responsible angling.

“We are excited to bring our message of ovarian awareness to the thousands of members and graduates of LLGF’s seminars,” said Marc Wolff, President of Message From Marli. “The greatest challenge we face is making sure women have access to factual information. Our organizations recently linked our websites together so LLGF’s members and graduates can find vital resources about ovarian cancer. This is a first for MFM, and we look forward to developing strategic alliances like this with women organizations around the globe.”

Founded in 1997 by Betty Bauman of Fort Lauderdale, LLGF has more than 6,000 graduates and is the largest organization in the world with the objective of introducing women to fishing.

“Cancer has affected so many of our members in so many different ways,” said Nicole Cairo, LLGF Manager. “We are happy to support The Message From Marli Foundation and help them bring their message of the importance of early detection to our members.”

Cairo and Wolff expect strong support from women anglers during the first MFM fishing tournament Saturday, June 11. Details are as follows:

About Message From Marli Foundation (MFM)
MFM is a nonprofit, charitable organization founded in 2010 to help raise awareness about ovarian cancer and to advocate for early detection of the disease. Following Marlene Wolff’s Stage IV diagnosis, her husband and her three children created the foundation to help educate women and medical professionals about the symptoms of the “silent killer” because once the symptoms become evident, the disease has advanced to the most dangerous levels.

By helping women become aware of ovarian cancer symptoms, it is our mission that we can help them receive early diagnosis and treatment. According to the American Cancer Society, Ovarian Cancer is the deadliest gynecologic cancer and the fifth leading cause of death in women in the United States with 22,000 women diagnosed annually. 80% of them are diagnosed at stage III or IV. The five-year survivability for this disease when diagnosed in the latter stages is approximately 15%. When diagnosed at stage I or II, the five-year survivability increases to 90%.

The funds donated to the foundation are used to create a variety of informational resources regarding ovarian cancer thus extending Message From Marli’s global campaign. Some of literature produced is used to supply health organizations such as the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center with resources for patients.
