Follow on Google News | Racecourse Charity Raffle Raises £720 for Marie Curie Cancer CareNewton Abbot Racecourse have donated £720 to Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Devon Nursing Appeal.
The charity’s local nursing appeal aims to raise £1 million this year to ensure that terminally ill people across Devon can continue to access its nursing service free of charge, allowing patients to spend their last months and weeks at home rather than go into hospital. Sarah Washington, Fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “We are extremely grateful for the support from Newton Abbot Racecourse. The monies raised will help support The Devon Nursing Appeal to ensure that terminally ill people across the county can continue to access the Marie Curie Nursing Service. Last year Marie Curie nurses provided 36,000 hours of care to over 700 patients in Devon, providing care to patients with terminal cancer and other illnesses in their home.” The proceeds of the charity raffle were presented to Sarah Washington by Newton Abbot Racecourse’s Catering Manager Sylvia Fairchild whose sister recently passed away: “Having recently lost my sister to cancer I’ve been made very aware of the wonderful work that hospice nurses do, particularly in enabling patients to stay at home until the very end. I’m truly delighted that Newton Abbot Racecourse have chosen such a deserving cause as Marie Curie Cancer Care for their Ladies Day charity.” The money was raised through a raffle at the racecourse’s recent Ladies’ Day fixture. Racegoers were invited to purchase raffle tickets to win some top prizes donated by local businesses including Hyundai Torbay, Triton galleries, Andrew Hill Hair Salon, The Princess Theatre, Buckland Tout-Saints Hotel and TLH Leisure Resort. The cheque presentation was made during the afternoon racing fixture on Monday 6th June. Racing returns to Newton Abbot Racecourse on Tuesday 14th June, the first of two evening racing fixtures to be held at the course this year. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at www.newtonabbotracing.com or by calling 01626 353 235. # # # Actuate Marketing specialise in strategic planning, market research & marketing communications through the use of both traditional and new media platforms.
