And you thought there was no such place

June 19, 2011 - PRLog -- eBay is making headlines for all kinds of reasons.  At least one eBayer sees it differently than I do. I am a seller. I have been using eBay for years for selling different items. The hobby of selling quickly faded. I expanded into a full service eBay seller in just a few years. Now when you consider the overhead the operating expenses today is difficult for a full time seller. Renting a location finding a staff and the products to stay competitive today. Putting a plan together then putting that plan into action is not straight forward as traditional Brick and Mortar Stores.

As a seller your interest in eBay changes from day to day. These days eBay is a straight forward tool to reach the already trusted and branded name eBay has built. Sellers like myself and others now rely on the eBay branding and the worldwide consumer base for all kinds of merchandise, such as buying household items too clothing and jewelry to the creativity today of sellers selling vacation timeshare and concert tickets. The products found today on eBay are endless as anyone can see.

For the sake of privacy my buyers do not want to be mentioned in this article. So I agreed to just report on there answers. I constructed a small list of questions I wanted to ask my buyers so to get a feel on what they are looking for on eBay. I asked them a series of  5 Questions and was surprised of the answers.  

Questions:
1) Why do you shop on eBay
2) Where else do you shop online
3) How long have you used eBay
4) Not including the purchases made with us name at least one item you buy over and over again on eBay.
5) Do you ever sell on eBay

I asked the question: “Why do you shop on eBay” The most popular answer was
“items are very cheap”.

I asked the question: “Where else do you shop online”  The most popular answer was Target .com and Amazon.

I asked the question: “How long have you used eBay” The average answer was since 2003.

I asked the question: “Not including the purchases made with us, name at least one item you buy over and over again on eBay” The most common answer was clothing and electronics, cell phone accessories leading in the answer.  

I asked the question: “Do you ever sell on eBay” Strangely enough question  number 5’s average answer was a BIG surprise. The average answer was “NO” with the remaining average answer to be I tried a few times but got confused or my item did not sell.

As a seller on eBay I needed the information to try to make sense of what acutely drives the average eBayer to their purchase. Surprisingly the only thing that stood out was “CHEAP” product items.

I have been driven for the last three years now to find cheap single to auction items to put in our eBay stores. Searching for Department store auctions of shelf pulls and year end items.  As the economy recovers more and more retailers out there are also searching for manufactures. We hope to continue with our business model of buying bulk auction department store items to offer to buyers on eBay and other selling platforms.
