June 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Halifax based charity Aye eye enlisted the help of well known local function band Afterglow to head line the evenings events at their Charity summer ball which took place on the 18th June 2011 at THE VENUE in its scenic rural location in Greetland a small village just outside Halifax, West Yorkshire.

Aye eye was set up as a charity in 2010 by Vera Parojcic who almost lost sight in both her eyes finding even the most basic everyday tasks impossible, Vera went to see consultant ophthalmologist Nitin Anand at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

She later underwent two operations at the department at the Halifax hospital, the second of which took place in February last year.

She said the surgery changed her life. “To have 62 years of sight and then suddenly have it taken away for three years is devastating.

“I was no longer independent and didn’t want to go out because someone would have to help me – I was like a prisoner.

“So to be given my sight back again was absolutely life-transforming.

“Only a person who was blind and regained their sight could appreciate the enormity.

“ We all think we know how it feels but experience is the only true teacher.

“I am just so grateful to the staff for giving me my life back.”

Vera wanted to give something back to the department and asked her consultant what they needed.

He replied a specialised piece of equipment to help glaucoma patients.

The machine can stop the progression of the blinding disease and has the potential to help around 6,000 sufferers living in Huddersfield and Calderdale every year.

It costs £45,000 but undeterred by the hefty price tag Vera has thrown herself into staging fundraisers and raising awareness of her charity.

In April 2010 she started Aye Eye and events have included everything from a table top sale and coffee mornings to a fun day, social evenings and a Summer ball in June this year.

Vera after looking at various bands to play the Charity ball contacted John Lowson of Afterglow, a local function band that specialises in playing for charity events across the UK, in February this year and explained that a quality function band was required for the Charity's summer ball that was to be held to raise money for this worthy charity. Afterglow who are known for their work for other local charity organisations such as the Round Table, Rotary Club and Freemasons invited Vera to come and see them play locally and she was instantly knocked out by the quality, selection and professionalism of the music played and decided without doubt that this was the band for her Charity summer ball.

Afterglow lived up to their expectations and kicked off the dancing which continued into the early hours of the Morning. The ball which was held in the classy "Venue" at Bowers mill, Greetland included a 3 course meal, Comedian Gerald Holden and of course the fantastic Afterglow who kept the dance floor packed from start to finish, with classic hits from the past 5 decades. The guests enjoyed worked off their meal dancing to timeless classics from Elvis Presley to Kings of Leon. The evening ended with vocalist Haley belting out the familiar start to Lulu's Shout followed by hands in the air anthem Don't stop believen.

The event was successful and raised over £5000 on the night for the charity.
