June 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Houston -  Daily Construction of Nantucket, MA, is a full-service contractor that specializes in preserving the historical flavor of New England through renovations and new construction.  As a company that already employs efficient building practices and ecologically sound use of materials, Daily Construction recently took their commitment to green one step further by enrolling with the Green Business Bureau (GBB) to become green business certified.

“I decided to join the GBB after I had a meeting with one of my suppliers in which I was stressing the need to source FSC (the Forest Stewardship Council label indicates wood harvested from sustainably-managed forests) materials for the entire project,” says Frank Daily, “He said that because I already run my business with green practices in place, I should get the recognition that goes with the extra effort.”

Daily says he learned about the GBB from a competitor, who also happens to be a friend.

“He mentioned the GBB, and the legitimacy that comes with aligning my company with them,” says Daily.

Daily Construction’s green efforts are both extensive and legitimate.  The company has a strong commitment to recycling, whether it be the reuse of building materials, collection of beverage containers onsite, or the separation of all construction and demolition materials so that the appropriate materials can be recycled. In addition, the firm uses only FSC materials in its construction, and professional planning of materials minimizes waste.  In the office, communications are sent electronically and printing is kept to a minimum to reduce paper usage.

The company takes full advantage of new sustainable technologies and is currently using a soy-based insulation for exterior wall insulation, and recycled blue jeans for interior insulation.   They encourage clients to make green choices, as well, encouraging the use of low-VOC paints and adhesives, as well as the selection of energy-rated and energy-saving light fixtures and appliances.

“Our crews share rides to and from the job site, and we have one crew member pick up material for all workers to cut down on vehicle emissions,” says Daily.  “And, during the construction, we always shut down the power to the site so as to not waste electricity.”

“We view the ‘green’ movement as a holistic enterprise,” says Daily.  “We know that we cannot simply vote for green solutions, we need to be those solutions.”

Daily goes on to say that sustainable business is about more than not wasting materials onsite or in the office, it is about saving a habitat for wildlife and a vista his child will be able to enjoy in the future; it’s not just lowering energy costs, it is reducing the cost of oil subsidies and environmental disaster cleanups to tax payers; and that its not just correcting a poor energy policy, it is saving the lives of our service members who are fighting for our “ever expanding need for energy”.

“By becoming a greener organization,” says Daily “We hope to bend the arc of destruction to one of conservation.”
