Global crude steel production in May rose 4.2% from a year earlier to a record monthly total of 130 million mt the World Steel Association said today. Global steel output in January-May totaled nearly 630 million mt, a gain of 7.3% year-on-year. Steel production was 127 million mt in April. China's steel output grew 7.8% from May 2010 to a new monthly record of 60.2 million mt, accounting for 46.3% of total global steel output last month.
