1.   Lay down the foundations first,...What is the purpose of the team? Does everyone have the same common goals. ASK them, you’d be surprised the amount of different responses you’ll get if this isn’t. A team that has the same common goal is focused, energised and confident.

2.   Think about the overall results of the team/office/group of people working towards the same target rather than yourself. The common saying, there’s no I in team is right! Each player will need to hold themselves accountable and realise what part they play in the team. Players need to realise that their performance is directly related to the performance of the team as a whole!

3.   Celebrate with your team. Celebrate their success and let them know that you think they have done well. Never miss opportunities to empower your team. Say thank you or show appreciation of an individual team player's work, unfortunately people are all too quick to call out when something’s done wrong, sometimes this is forgotten!

4.   Problems such as team conflict or poor team performance don’t go away. Things might temporarily seem to get better, but usually if the underlying issue isn’t addressed, the team problem will flare up again at another time. Don’t look to blame someone. Work towards figuring out what went wrong and how it can be fixed.

5.   Involve the whole team in decision making processes for matters than concern the whole team. Build trust with your team members by spending one-on-one time in an atmosphere of openness and honesty. Be loyal, if you expect the same.


If you use these tips you will have an award winning team! Just remember that in order for a team to be successful, you will need to devote a lot of time to them. You as the leader of your team will need to be the best example at all times!
