July 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Men’s Health Magazine just came out with an article that ranked “the most and least active cities in America” which was also featured all other the national news including The Today Show.  Nashville  ranked as Top 10 most sedentary city in all of US!

To compile the rankings of the 100 most sedentary cities featured in the latest issue that just hit the newsstands on Tuesday, the magazine looked at how often residents exercise, the number of households that watched 15 hours of cable television a week and bought more than 11 video games a year, and the rate of DVT, a blood clot in a vein, usually in the leg, which is associated with inactivity.

Urban Active Fitness wants to help improve the statistics and get the community moving by offering a FREE Personal Training Jumpstart Session including simple everyday Tips to Get Started along with a FREE One week membership.

We have many Fitness Experts on hand to guide its community to get moving towards overall better health and wellness.  Please call us to arrange interviews.

How were the numbers calculated? Men’s Healthlooked at where and how often people exercise (Experian Marketing Services); the percentage of households that watch more than 15 hours of cable a week and buy more than 11 video games a year (Mediamark Research); and the rate of deaths from deep-vein thrombosis, a condition linked to a lot of sitting (CDC). Saying, since some people define "exercise" loosely, we gave credit for any physical activity in the past month (CDC).

The benefits of regular exercise go beyond a thin figure. Want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer? The merits of regular physical activity spread from preventing chronic health conditions to promoting weight loss and better sleep. Regardless of age, sex or physical ability, CNNlists the top benefits of exercise:

1)      Improves Mood
2)      Combats chronic diseases
3)      Helps you manage your weight
4)      Boosts energy levels
5)      Promotes better sleep
6)      Put the spark back into sex life
7)      Can be fun!
