July 5, 2011 - PRLog -- According to the representatives at GreenBeanBuddy.com Diet Soda has recently been found to promote obesity and in turn Heart Disease which is the leading cause of death in the United States.

Diet Soda has been a staple of the American society for many years and has also has been a hot topic in the world of fitness and has lead to many case studies on its adverse affects on the body.

Green Bean Buddy has brought forth two new studies from The American Diabetes Association in San Diego. Which provided stunning results that in fact diet soda can cause consumers to actually gain weight.

"Data from this and other prospective studies suggest that the promotion of diet sodas as healthy alternatives may be ill-advised” Dr. Helen Hazuda, professor of medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, said in a written statement. “They may be free of calories, but not of consequences.” Consequences like weight gain. "

" For one study, researchers at the center followed 474 diet soda drinkers, 65 to 74 years of age, for almost 10 years. They found that diet soda drinkers’ waists grew 70 percent more than non-drinkers. Specifically, drinking two or more diet sodas a day busted belt sizes five times more than people who avoided the stuff entirely."

"And as waist size grows, so do health risks – including diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and other chronic conditions."

The study also reveals the reasoning behind the numbers. Green Bean Buddy implicates that the culprit in this case to be artificial sweeteners, Which are a controversial and well studied product line and have been found to be a cause of some types of cancer.

"Artificial sweeteners could have the effect of triggering appetite but unlike regular sugars they don’t deliver something that will squelch the appetite,” Sharon Fowler, obesity researcher at UT Health Science Center at San Diego and a co-author on both of these studies, She also said sweeteners could inhibit brain cells that make you feel full."

The Represenatives at Green Bean Buddy go on to say," I guess if soda is wrong for you then so is diet soda. And if you want to cut calories and lose weight, reach for a nice tall glass of water, eight glasses a day to be exact."
