Follow on Google News | IWHOF 2011 Nomination Period Extended to July 22nd for Whitewater Paddling Heroes and HeroinesThe International Whitewater Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations through July 22nd, 2011 for the Class of 2011-honoring the world's most accomplished whitewater Pioneers, Explorers, Champions and Advocates.
By: International Whitewater Hall of Fame "We had planned to close nominations on July 12th," notes Pam Dillon, Board of Governors member and retiring Chief, Watercraft Division of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. "but are extending our deadline until July 22nd because of a later start in the process this year.” The IWHOF screening group will develop a slate of candidates from those nominated. The IWHOF electorate, comprised of whitewater experts from around the world, then votes to determine the final honorees. Nominators who submitted in past years are encouraged to update their prior submissions. Submissions should illustrate nominees' accomplishments with documents, articles, photographs, video, and mentions in news stories. These materials will be used to produce the popular annual video highlighting honorees’ achievements at the 2011 IWHOF Induction to be held October 15, 2011 in Coloma, California, USA. The 2011 IWHOF nomination forms, instructions, election procedure and timeline are available on the IWHOF website Nominations Page at http://www.iwhof.org. Videos of past honorees from 2010 to 2006 are also available on the IWHOF website. IWHOF current information and updates are also posted on IWHOF’s facebook page in addition to the IWHOF.org website. http://www.facebook.com/ # # # The International Whitewater Hall of Fame (IWHOF) is a program of the Paddlesports Industry Foundation, a non-profit educational organization that seeks to recognize and celebrate significant contributions to paddlesports. IWHOF is run by an international Board of Governors who hail from various paddling backgrounds. Nominations are sought and submitted through IWHOF Affiliates around the world, who confirm the validity of the submissions and sort for duplicates. An international screening panel reviews the nominations to determine a ballot. Over 100 members of the IWHOF electorate cast votes in each category to determine the new year's slate of honorees. Recommendations are good for six years, after which they must be re-submittted. Each year 1 or 2 honorees are chosen in the categories of Pioneer, Explorer, Champion and Advocate. End
