"Tulsa Sound" Comes To Luna Chica Records With The Release Of Don White Albums

The "Tulsa Sound" comes to Luna Chica Records with the release of three albums of Oklahoman Don White. White's signature sound helped to build the foundation of the Tulsa Sound and bring it to international prominence.

Aug. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- (NASHVILLE) For four decades, native Oklahoman Don White has been considered one of Tulsa's elite artists. With his signature sound, a mix of rhythm and blues, county blues, honkytonk shuffle, and rock and roll, he helped to build the foundation of the "Tulsa Sound" and bring it to international prominence.

Now that distinct Tulsa Sound has traveled east to Luna Chica Records (LCR) in Nashville, Tenn. The indie record label is representing Don White and three of his signature, independent albums: Okie Fiesta, Bits & Pieces and the soon-to-be coming Daddy Bo, a joint project with White's son, Steve White.

This isn't the first time White's been affiliated with a Nashville record label, although the dynamic has changed with LCR. At one point in Don White's career, he moved to Nashville after signing a major recording contract. At a time when other artists were striving for commercial acceptance, White never sold out. His belief in the importance of musical integrity, along with the quality of his work, has served as the foundation for his excellent artistic reputation among the frontlines of his peers. For White it's not about topping charts, it's about touching hearts - which is one of the reasons that White's current partnership with Luna Chica Records evolved. Both are concerned about musical integrity and spreading a unique, personal musical message.

Originally from Tulsa, Luna Chica Records' Chief Operating Officer, Brenda Cline, spent many nights listening to White play in the clubs while she was still living in Tulsa.
“I have admired Don and have been a fan of his for many years and he was on the top of my list to sign to this label,” said Cline. “The Tulsa Sound and Don's music are very much a passion and love of mine. I am personally so proud to be representing him.”

Don White is a prolific and accomplished writer. Roseanne Cash, Suzy Bogguss, Razzy Bailey, and The Oak Ridge Boys are a few who have recorded his songs. He's also been a regularly requested studio musician for artists, including J.J. Cale, Jamie Hartford, Waylon Jennings, Marty Stuart, The Tractors, and Johnny Rodriguez. By special invitation, White has opened for Willie Nelson, Delbert McClinton, Don Williams, George Strait, Merle Haggard, Toby Keith, David Allen Coe, and Dwight Yoakum, among many others.

Terrell Lester, formerly of Tulsa World, may have described White's songwriting, vocals and guitar playing best: “His lyrics are honest and simple, sometimes poignant, sometimes whimsical. His vocals are clean and pure, heart-felt and heart-warming. He takes no shortcuts, leaves no song to chance. He wraps himself around a tune and embraces it with the help of his audience. Watching Don White at work, with guitar in hand and a microphone at attention, is mesmerizing and captivating. It must be akin to watching Da Vinci paint.”
