Aug. 4, 2011 - PRLog -- Social enterprise newcomer Yellow Leaf Hammocks has launched its brand new e-commerce website(http://www.yellowleafhammocks.com), premiering a distinct collection of designs and customizable hammocks that are “freshly woven” by artisans in Northern Thailand’s hill tribe region.

Along with its Signature Collection of hammocks available in classic striped designs, Yellow Leaf introduces the Hammock Design-o-Matic, allowing customers to a design a personalized hammock to fit their own unique taste. With an array of colors available, hammocks can be designed to coordinate with décor, celebrate seasons and holidays or even demonstrate team pride.

All hammock designs are available in three sizes: King (550 lb capacity, $210-$275), Queen (330 lb capacity, $160-$225), and Sitting, a reclining seat that stretches out more than seven feet (330 lb capacity, $135-$200).

Each Yellow Leaf Hammock encompasses Five Key Attributes:
•   Cloudlike Comfort: The close-knit, free-flowing weaves are technically engineered to contour to the body for unparalleled comfort.

•   Super-Strength: Although they appear to be delicately interwoven, Yellow Leaf Hammocks can comfortably support 330-550 lbs!
•   Beauty: Classic stripes in an array of hues provide a perfect “pop” of color- and the unique customizer means that there is a Yellow Leaf Hammock to suit any style.

ABOUT YELLOW LEAF WEAVERS
The Mlabri and other small hill tribes are among the most disadvantaged groups in Southeast Asia. They are listed among the UNESCO “Endangered Languages” with only 300 members left in the world. Traditionally a reclusive hunter-gatherer society, the Mlabri, were decimated when their forest home was lost to a global demand for teak and an onslaught of chemical slash & burn farming.  The Mlabri were left impoverished and forced into indentured servitude as laborers in toxic agriculture fields- the only regional economy. Turning their artisan talents to weaving hammocks broke the cycle of devastation and has been the key to developing a stable micro-economy in the community. As weaving work has spread to regional tribes, it has been embraced as an opportunity to earn a stable income and combat social inequity without resorting to environmental destruction or abandoning their cultural identity.
