By: Foster + Freeman The Made by Britain Awards are a new governement initiative launched by Business Secretary Vince Cable who asked a selection of MPs to nominate products that represent the best in design and manufactiuring in their local area. The TFD-2 , an automated, high-throughput device capable of developing fingerprints on large quantities of documents, has been nominated for the award by mid-Worcestershire MP and Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology at the MoD, Peter Luff who said of the device: “Foster and Freeman are leaders in their industry. TFD-2 is just one of their Fingerprint Recording and Examination products, making a vital contribution to the fight against crime and fraud around the world. “I salute the company’s commitment to support local industry wherever possible and I am proud to have a business in my constituency that is the driving force behind innovation and development in their industry.” Initially the TFD-2 will feature, alongside other products and technologies nominated for the award including the Land Rover, the Martin-Baker ejector seat and the Rolls Royce Trent engine, in a virtual exhibition and online interactive map with a view to expanding the project, possibly with a major exhibition, to coincide with next year’s Olympics and Diamond Jubilee. Bob Freeman, joint founder of the company said of the nomination: “It has come as a very pleasant surprise to be nominated for this award and we are grateful to Peter Luff for his support and recommendation. “As scientists, Doug Foster and I have always striven to create new technology to carry the company forward but credit must also go to our very talented team of engineers who turn new ideas into effective products, used by law enforcement agencies worldwide.” # # # Foster + Freeman are innovators in the design and manufacture of systems for the examination of questioned documents, latent fingerprints, trace evidence and shoe prints. Established in 1978, Foster + Freeman has become one of the foremost forensic science equipment suppliers in the world, exporting market leading, and in many cases unique products to more than 140 countries.
