TRANSLATION

The female relatives, whose eyes were flooded with tears out of anxiety for Krishna, came out of the palace. They could stop their tears only with great difficulty. They feared that tears would cause misfortune at the time of departure.

PURPORT

There were hundreds of ladies in the palace of Hastinapura. All of them were affectionate to Krishna. All of them were relatives also. When they saw that Krishna was going away from the palace for His native place, they were very anxious for Him, and as usual tears began to roll down their cheeks. They thought, at the same time, that tears at that moment might be a cause of misfortune for Krishna; therefore they wanted to check them. This was very difficult for them because the tears could not be checked. Therefore, they smeared their tears in their eyes, and their hearts throbbed. Therefore ladies who were the wives and daughters-in-law of those who died in the battlefield never came in direct contact with Krishna. But all of them heard of Him and His great activities, and thus they thought of Him, talked of Him, His name, His fame, etc., and became affectionate also, like those who were in direct contact. Therefore directly or indirectly anyone who thinks of Krishna or talks of Krishna or worships Krishna becomes attached to Him. Because Krishna is absolute, there is no difference between His name, form, quality, etc. Our intimate relation with Krishna can be confidentially revived by our talking of, hearing of, or remembering Him. It is so done due to spiritual potency.
In this chapter we see Lord Krishna leaving Hastinapura and proceeding to Dvaraka, and how the different residents of the palace of Hastinapura are seeing him off. And here in this particular verse it is about “bandhava-striyah” the female relatives of Krishna, and it is said here that “nyarundhann udgalad baspam autkanthyad devaki-sute”, their eyes were filled with tears, although they were trying to check their tears, thinking that it maybe inauspicious "abhadram", for Krishna who is just about to leave. Considering so they were trying to check with great difficulty the tears that were rolling down from their eyes. So we can see the intensity of affection of these bandhava-striyah, and we are seeing many other associates of the Lord in Hastinapura, and how they were all feeling this kind of an intense affection and devotion that tears were flowing from their eyes.

And Srila Prabhupada teaches, Lord Chaitanya teaches that every living entity has the potential to develop this kind of an intense love for Krishna. It is not actually in a sense, a love for Krishna that is developed. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu clarifies that it is not that love of Krishna has to be developed because we don’t have it; love of Krishna is the natural quality of every living entity. Every one of us naturally have that ability, because we are part and parcel of Krishna. Some of us have recognized this and we are trying to achieve it, some are not interested in it, and they are in this material world, in ignorance.

So sometimes we see a cockroach running here and there, that’s also a living entity, or any other, birds, cats, dogs.  Each one of them have that potential to become an associate of Krishna, and to be in the spiritual world. But in ignorance we are all along with them, just searching for affection in this material world. That is the nature of the living entity, because the living entity was created for the pleasure of the Lord. The Lord has unlimited energies, the Lord is a person, and he has got unlimited energies. And a person means, a person has consciousness, a person has knowledge, a person has activities, a person has pleasures, he seeks pleasures, and he enjoys them and experiences pleasures.
