Baltimore fashion week announces scholarship award winner

Aug. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Baltimore Fashion Week Scholarship awarded to Savannah College of Art & Design student

With its 4th production less than a week away, Baltimore Fashion Week announces its 2011-2012 scholarship award recipient. This year’s recipient—Keiara Joyner—is a junior at the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Fashion Design.

Joyner, a Dean’s List Student for two consecutive years and member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, dreams of benefitting the fashion industry through her talents as designer and plans to pursue a Bachelor’s in Business Management to complement her studies at SCAD.

“It has always been a goal of mine to support the dreams and goals of talented individuals,” stated CEO and Executive Producer of Baltimore Fashion Week Sharan Nixon. “Keiara’s academic history, recommendations and creativity was exemplified through her submission and her drive is so inspiring. I knew we found the perfect candidate in her.”

The Baltimore Fashion Week Scholarship Award is presented annually to full time students in pursuit of an Associate of Arts (AA) or a Bachelor of Arts in the fields of Business Administration/ Marketing/ Management, Arts & Sciences, Journalism or Fine Arts from an accredited college or university.

In addition to a financial stipend, Keiara will also receive two (2) tickets to the finale showcase during Baltimore Fashion Week 2011; a complimentary designer slot in next year’s 2012 Baltimore Fashion Week production entitled, “The 5th Element of Fashion”; and an opportunity to design one garment to be showcased in Baltimore Fashion Week 2012.

“I am preparing to enter the fashion industry with the willingness to challenge myself to reach new heights,” Joyner writes. “Ultimately, I plan to be a successful entrepreneur with my own clothing line and boutique.”

Baltimore Fashion Week will run Thursday, August 18, 2011 through Sunday, August 21, 2011.
