Aug. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- This move comes in the wake of a most trying week and a half for Executive Producer Sharan Nixon. After being pulled along for weeks by the Harbor East Development Company, Nixon found out a week prior to the event that Harbor East would no longer serve as the home of Baltimore Fashion Week.

“There is no way that Baltimore Fashion Week would be canceled,” said Nixon. “I did everything in my power to ensure the success of this event—and since we were forced to move, that’s exactly what we did.”

Baltimore Fashion Week will not be housed in The Tent, due to the City permit timeline needed to secure the proper permits.  Nixon looked at two possible locations after knowing that Harbor East would not be an option.

The two locations included the War Memorial Plaza and the Helen Mackall Park located in Northwest Baltimore.  Due to the amount of time needed to properly secure a permit for these two locations Nixon had no other choice but to release the European structure from the production phase.

“To have to release the structure after all that we [structure company and myself] went through with crunching numbers and resizing the structure to achieve the ambiance I wanted to provide to the designers, guests, and participants of this event.  I was devastated to have to release the structure from the production phases of this event.  There was nothing I could do without the proper space or foundation to place the structure.  One may think that when something like this happens a person would shut down.  In my eyes and those of my team, we do not have time to shut down; the event starts in a matter of days and it will go on as scheduled and it will be fabulous,” stated Nixon.

Nixon has been feverishly searching for a new venue to house the event.  Nixon is looking in both Baltimore County and in Baltimore City to find an official “home” for this event.  The final meeting will take place on Monday, August 15, 2011 to take care of the necessary paperwork.  An announcement will be made Monday, August 15, 2011 indicating where Baltimore Fashion Week 2011 will be held for the 4-day fashion events running August 18, 2011 through August 21, 2011.
