They will short a market, attack with stories of investor concern, trigger computer-managed selling as the market reacts, cover their positions, go long, sell out when prices recover the next day when the “market” decides things aren’t as bad as the seemed the day before, and pocket multimillion dollar, or euro, gains from both the fall and subsequent rise in share prices.
