Follow on Google News | Frontline Protection Training 2011 for Hosur forest divısionKenneth Anderson Nature Socıety, an NGO working at the Hosur Forest Divısion conducted frontline protection training for the staff of Hosur forest Division.
The staff were trained in field craft, anti-poaching tactics, proper use of firearms and guidelines on legal issues. The objective of the workshop is to enhance the skills of the staff and also highlight the importance of their role and improve their morale and self-esteem. For details please refer the attachment The following series of activities were covered: I. Protection: Explaining the importance of foot patrol, Mobile Patrols, Anti Poaching Camps and Check posts for the protection of the forests How to set up anti poaching camp and ideal number of such camps (3 per 100 sq. kms) How to organize patrolling through patrols, tracks, etc., and gather intelligence through them How to tackle poachers, conduct raids. II. Wildlife protection enforcement via Wildlife Act Went through the key points in wildlife protection act, forest act and forest conservation act . (Like sections on filing cases) Detailed the process of lodging complaints and to make the case fool proof Interaction with the local police Detailed the settlement of tribal rights through various acts Through personal examples and citing various sources explained why the forests must be conserved. III. Gun Handling · How to differentiate between guns in darkness, picking the right cartridges, loading in darkness · Firing · Intro to guns available at the department ACF Padma who had previously worked at Nagarhole as Range forest officer and had heard several of Chinappa's stories first hand thanked the wildlife first and KANS team for organizing the event. # # # We are a group of devout nature lovers and readers of Kenneth Anderson's books. After visiting the Melagiri Hills in TN , KANS decided to take on the task of securing this habitat for the Tiger through a mix of passive and active conservation activities. End
