Follow on Google News | Charity Raceday Announced In Aid of Devon Royal MarinesNewton Abbot Racecourse have announced plans to hold their first raceday in aid of Royal Marines on Monday 5th September.
In conjunction with The C Group, the charity based at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, Lympstone, the raceday aims to raise awareness of the charitable efforts of The C Group and seek support from the local business community. Alongside the regular thrills of the afternoon’s horseracing, racegoers will be welcomed to the course by the Royal Marines Corps of Drums and will be treated to numerous stances including vehicles and weapons. The Royal Marines Unarmed Combat Team will also be putting on shows between the day’s seven races. Formed in 2007, The C Group was the brainchild of the then Commandant of the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, Major General Andy Salmon. The C Group’s mission is to generate backing from within the business community to aid the ongoing rehabilitation and re-integration of wounded, sick and injured Royal Marines. Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse said: “The C Group play a tremendous role in generating and providing assistance to Royal Marines and their families who live and work in the Devon community.” “We hope that the racing fixture will help raise awareness within the local business community and wider public to their charitable efforts. The whole team at Newton Abbot Racecourse are delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile initiative and we hope that the local community will get behind their efforts.” Lieutenant Colonel Neil Willson, the Commanding Officer at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines at Lympstone near Exeter said, “The Royal Marines and, in particular, all ranks at the Commando Training Centre are grateful to Newton Abbot Racecourse for supporting the Royal Marines and, more importantly, The C Group Charity that has been established to help Royal Marines in need.” “With so many Royal Marines currently deployed overseas on Operations this will be a great day out and a chance for us to get together both serving and retired Royal Marines with the families of those deployed,” he added. Course and Paddock Enclosure tickets for the September fixture are on sale now priced at £12 and £18 respectively. As the charity fixture falls on a Monday, those booking their tickets at least one week in advance are able to take advantage of the Super Monday Special ticket promotion where two Paddock Enclosure tickets are available for the price of 1.
