“This wonderful book brings back memories of a time when we boxers treated each other with respect and dignity. We also developed friendships that in some cases lasted a lifetime. Tony and I fought in the ring, but we were both cut from the same cloth, and we have remained close all these years. This book is a tribute to many of us who participated in the sport we call boxing.”
Carmen Basilio, former middleweight Champion; former Welterweight Champion

“Nardo, Memoirs of a Boxing Champion tells the story of the great Tony DeMarco and not only his life in the ring, but his life in general. Tony was one of my favorite Champs as a fighter and as a man. Tony, I salute you!”
Jake LaMotta “The Raging Bull,” former Middleweight Champion

“Nardo is a great read and an inspirational story. Many years ago, Tony DeMarco inspired me to become a professional boxer. I tried to emulate this great fighter in every way possible. Sammy Fuller became my trainer, Rip Valenti my manager, and I even trained in the Catskills. I would observe Tony’s every move in the ring, the way that he handled himself in public, and the way that he treated other people. Tony was my boxing idol, and to this day has remained a very dear friend. The book gives people the chance to see the man, not just the boxer. At times during my political career, I often thought about Tony’s inner strength and courage. This helped me make what I hope were the right decisions when it came to protecting the rights of citizens of the Commonwealth.”
Joe DeNucci, former Middleweight Contender and former                                                                                                    State Auditor, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

“The book is a knockout. Both Tony and Rocky had so much in common - especially heart.”
Peter Marciano, brother of former undefeated Heavyweight Champ, Rocky Marciano

“Tony DeMarco is a walking reminder of the halcyon days of live gate boxing, where ballyhoo was obligatory and a fighter’s heart was compulsory. His 13-year career, which consisted of depths of heartbreak and peaks of euphoria, held him in good stead for what was to come in life.”

“Back in the early 1950s, a young man from Boston became a rising star in boxing and went on to win the World Welterweight Championship. Tony DeMarco was the “Peoples Champion” because he never forgot his roots. Well-respected in the boxing world, Tony continues to impress fans with his charm, charisma, and his many accomplishments. Boxing gave Tony the opportunity to fight for what is right in this great country we call America.” This book tells his story.
Joe Cortez, International Boxing Hall of Fame referee
