Aug. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- In an article recently released, one of the country’s leading online insurance service, Insure4USA.com, revealed the truth behind insurance for sports utility vehicles. Most people are of the notion that SUVs are more expensive to insure than any other type of vehicle. Although this is true since SUVs are not as safe as cars and are likely to roll over due to a high center of gravity, there are several options to find affordable SUV insurance. The article released by Insure4USA.com titled “Why Do Insurance Rates Vary Among Different Types of SUVs?” deals with various issues related to SUV insurance and what owners can do to save as much as possible.

David, manager of Insure4USA.com says, “SUVs are much more difficult to drive and are likely to cause more damage to property and persons if involved in an accident due to its heavy construction. However, that doesn’t mean that owners have to bear the brunt of exorbitant insurance premiums. There are many models that attract affordable insurance since they are narrower. The key is to make sure that your SUV is loaded with safety features so that three are less chances of death or injury in an accident. So, to start with, choose the right model that will help lower your monthly insurance bill.”

The article highlights the guidelines for choosing the safest SUV by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), a non-profit organization which tests and rates vehicles on various safety issues. David of Insure4USA.com says, “The IIHS lists 25 SUV models with the highest safety ratings. They include features such as electronic stability control and computerized braking technology. Among the big SUVs to make it to the list are the Volkswagen Taureg and Buick Enclave. Then we have the Ford Edge, GMC Terrain, and Mercedes GLK in mid-size SUVs. Among the top in the small SUV range are the Hyundai Tucson, Honda Element, and Volkswagen Tiguan, among others. So, potential SUV owners can now know what to look for when they are scouting around for an SUV that won’t cost them a bomb in terms of insurance.”

According to Insure4USA’s article, there are a number of SUVs that boost insurance rates as per the IIHS list. These include the GMC Envoy, Toyota Highlander, and BMW X3. Although this doesn’t mean that the vehicles are not safe, they are likely to cost more based on their design and technology. David says, “That’s not all. There are models that can be the target of thieves. The Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Tahoe are among the most stolen SUVs. Just make sure you study the market well and then buy one that suits your style and budget.”
