By: CSULA Public Affairs Cal State L.A. was one of only three major organizations nominated for the Herman C. Bliss Airports Partnership Award, one of the FAA Western-Pacific Region’s most prestigious awards. During the certificate presentation, the FAA credited CSULA’s program for preparing individuals to become some of today’s finest aviation professionals. The presenter noted that “many CSULA graduates have gone on to become airport managers, Department of Homeland Security Agents as well as Federal Aviation Administration employees.” Keith Mew, faculty adviser of the University’s Aviation Administration Program, said, “We are delighted to have received this honor. We have been very lucky in attracting excellent students who have gone on to have successful careers, and we are just happy that we could help them along the way.” To be considered for the award, nominees must be an airport sponsor, consultant, state government employee(s) or any other non-FAA person(s) or organization( · developed and/or implemented specific programs or activities resulting in enhanced airport/aviation safety · performed outstanding and/or unique accomplishments in support of airports programs · developed/implemented other noteworthy accomplishments that have provided substantial benefit to aviation within the Western Pacific Region. Housed in the Department of Technology at CSULA, the Aviation Administration Program offers the following courses that lead to a bachelor’s degree: Air Traffic Control, Airline Finance, Airline Management and Operations, Airport Administration, Airport Planning, Aviation Law, Aviation Sales, General Aviation Management and Safety Factors in Aviation.
