Go2Germany – 1st stop Hamburg

Aug. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Under the title “Go2Germany – 1st stop Hamburg” The Danish IT association (ITB), Hamburg@work and TBK Consult have announced two seminars on how Danish software companies can get started in Northern Germany.

Denmark is one of the smallest markets in the world.  0,39% of world demand for IT related products and services are generated by the Danish economy.  Nevertheless  Denmark has been the birthplace of quite a number of international software blockbusters. UNIRAS, Skype, SpamFighter, Microsoft Dynamics AX and NAV, SimCorp and CCI Europe have all grown out of this small market.

“Danish software companies must face the challenges of internationalisation very early in their life,” explains Hans Peter Bech, CEO of TBK Consult. “Germany, the 2nd largest IT market in the World, is right on our doorstep and hard to ignore. However Danish software companies need to find creative ways of bootstrapping their way into the German market, as they often do not have the resources to invest in a subsidiary with dedicated staff from the very beginning.  The “Go2Germany – 1st stop Hamburg” is proving practical hints making the first steps.”

Germany is the largest economy in Europe and the 2nd largest software market in the world (after the USA).  With 82,3 million inhabitants Germany holds the second largest national population in Europe (after Russia).  Germany is administratively divided into 16 “Bundesländer”, which are subdivided into 439 “Kreise” and “Städte”. The German software market is expected to grow with 4,2% and amount to € 15,2 billion in 2011.

Contradictory to common perceptions, German wealth and welfare is also based on numerous small companies.  Out of the 3,6 million registered companies in Germany only 11.300 have more than 250 employees.

“Hamburg and the neighboring “Bundesländer” are home to 21,1 million people.  This makes the market around Hamburg substantially larger than any of the Scandinavian markets,” says Kai Lemke, Partner with TBK Consult in Hamburg. “We are currently supporting a number of Danish software companies with getting started in Northern Germany and are convinced that many more could take advantage of this market opportunity.”
