“In the Footsteps of Cezanne and Van Gogh: Paintings of France’s Provence Region” – Show Opens October 20th

The Marshall-LeKAE Gallery proudly announces its upcoming show featuring talented Arizona artist Neil Myers and opening 10/20/2011. The exhibition pays homage to a region of France the artist visited that is the inspiration for this particular series of works. During time spent in Aix-en-Provence, Neil studied French language as well as French literature and art. He also visited many sites of paintings by Cézanne, Van Gogh, and Gauguin. He confesses, “I even had a midday glass of beer at Van Gogh’s “Night Café” in Arles. This Provence-inspired art show came to fruition as a result of Myers’ immersion in French culture. Says the artist:

“I’m delighted to present this group of works inspired by Provence. The show is my homage to a region of France, legendary for its beauty and uniqueness, and for having inspired many of our favorite painters. In painting these, I had the masterworks of three artists primarily in mind: Jean-Claude Quilici, Vincent van Gogh, and Paul Cézanne. Actually, I drifted between all three, and somewhere between the grandeur of the Mont Sainte Victoire, the intimacy of the Night Café, and the kaleidoscope deep blues of the Quilici skies in Provence, I found something of my own hand inspired by the region where I was fortunate to spend time and study some years ago. All colorists, like myself, owe something to those masters who worked in, and were inspired by, Provence.” – Neil Myers

We cordially invite you to come and enjoy this lovely series of works by Neil Myers, one of Arizona’s finest, contemporary landscape artists. His neo-fauvist works reflect the beauty of the Southwest and have found acclaim with art lovers, nation wide. One collector states, “Neil’s paintings Pulsate with an intensity that jumps off the canvas; the play between the bright heart and the dark recesses proves his mastery. His paintings are both pretty and primal... a strange but beautiful equation.” – Timothy Christian.

Most recently, Mr. Myers’ work was featured in the 2011 “Masters of the Southwest” issue of Phoenix Home and Garden, as well as other Southwest publications. Do not miss the opportunity to meet renowned artist and entertaining raconteur Neil Myers himself on the following Saturday, October 29th, for a painting demonstration and meet & greet.
