SMU-DE ranked among Top 3 Distance Education Institutes offering management courses

Sept. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Sikkim Manipal University – Distance Education (SMU-DE) , a unique public-private initiative between the Government of Sikkim and Manipal Education, Ranked #3 in a survey of  Top Distance Education Institutes providing Management Education conducted by Business World Magazine and research agency Synovate.

The methodology adopted by the Businessworld-Synovate Distance Education B-school survey kick-started as a perceptual survey of all the stakeholders in management education. The research conducted interviews of 501 respondents across some of the major cities such as Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai. And; the data about the top 33 business institutes pertaining to the some critical parameters for evaluating a distance learning university was gathered from the institute’s websites. On compilation, the best-rated distance learning universities was announced, and our very own SMU-DE (http://www.smude.edu.in) was the 3rd Best Distance Education University offering Management courses in India.

The crucial parameters, for a student to choose a distance learning institute, were proper affiliation, online admission and examinations, IT infrastructure, study-centres and foreign collaboration. The universities, which came out as the chosen few in the survey, faced a stiff competition to top it all. Amongst the ones, which came in the top ranking list, SMU-DE is the only one with international learning centres.

The survey brings out some of the salient features and advantages of distance education.  With technology ripping traditional barriers of time and distance, there is a vast global resource pool at one’s disposal. Easy-to-use interfaces, ready accessibility, virtual-reality concepts taking charge in the real-time scenario, make distance learning an avenue to discover one’s potential in length, breadth and depth. As many of the top ranking distance learning universities such as SMU-DE, which scored a full 100 on its IT infrastructure & Facilities, deploy their resources on the technology medium, with its comprehensive high-end e-learning software EduNxt. Distance learning is slated to not only be a simulation of the campus-ethos, but an extension of the same, encompassing the shrinking world.
