Follansbee Steel Adds Southern Charm Atop Island Home

Daufuskie Island Residence Features KlassicKolors Roof

Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Follansbee Steel KlassicKolors in Terra Cotta provides the ideal combination of beauty and durability for a Daufuskie Island residence, located on the Atlantic coast between Hilton Head, SC and Savannah, GA.

Set in the northeast part of the island, called Haig Point, and surrounded by a canopy of oak trees, the island home draws upon the southern region’s vernacular architecture with its large porches, sturdy columns, window shutters, clapboard siding and hand-seamed metal roof. The interior of the home complements its gorgeous exterior with wood plank walls and ceilings, reclaimed pine flooring and antique light fixtures.

Approximately 3,000 square feet of 28-gauge KlassicKolors Terra Cotta roofing panels top off the brand new structure, making it look like a classic southern home.

“We wanted the house to look like the old traditional houses all over the coastal South,” says Rick Clanton, Principal, Group 3 Design. “A hand-seamed terra cotta roof from Follansbee Steel is the authentic choice that provides functional benefits of durability and longevity.”

Metal roofing from Follansbee Steel is an ideal option for coastal homes because it offers a sleek and classic look while providing unsurpassed corrosion and moisture resistance unmatched by other roofing materials.

“A metal roof is an important element of a coastal design and KlassicKolors Terra Cotta is a classic addition to this beautiful island home,” says Chris Welch, Follansbee Steel general sales manager. “Given the home’s location, conditions require a roof that will last and can withstand the marine environment. A Follansbee Steel roof is ideal because it offers long-lasting corrosion resistance and superior performance.”

KlassicKolors is a pre-painted Terne II zinc/tin coated roofing sheet offered in an extensive palette of designer colors. Its base sheet is coated with Follansbee’s patented ZT® (zinc/tin) alloy and then painted with Valspar solar reflective paint coatings. The ZT alloy provides enhanced durability and extends the life of the metal for many years, even if the painted surface is breached.

A sustainable roofing choice, the coating on KlassicKolors helps conserve energy, providing solar reflectance and heat emittance properties for reduced air-conditioning costs. The low sheen of KlassicKolors coatings gives any building a traditional look, which makes them ideal for both new and existing construction as well as restoration projects.

Construction on the Daufuskie Island residence began in June 2007 and was completed in February 2009. In addition to Group 3 Design, Hilton Head Island, SC, as the architect, the project team included Tidewater Company of Daufuskie, Daufuskie Island, SC as the builder.
