New Game Improvement TaylorMade Burner 2.0 Irons Review

Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- TaylorMade's new lineup is starting to trickle out, and it looks to improve on a number of things from last year. Of course, it's easy to make the joke "well don't they do that every few months anyway?", but no one can say that they don't put out something to fit just about everyone's game.


For more than a year, TaylorMade's Burner irons have been among the best selling irons in the game. The combination of distance and ease of use made them especially popular with mid- and higher-handicap players. Tinkering with that success was not without risk(Cheap golf clubs), but Brett Wahl, TaylorMade's senior director of product development for irons, says that the new Burner 2.0 irons are simply better than their predecessors — for several reasons.



For starters, if you remember, TaylorMade's marketing campaign for the original Burner irons made it abundantly clear that they didn't engineer the set as a whole, they paid attention to the needs of each individual iron. They maintained the same direction with the new Burner 2.0, though they further improved the weight distribution in each iron in order to improve the ball flight across the board.

Thin face
Every new Burner 2.0 iron has a different face thickness. The thinner the face, the more ball speed and distance the irons can produce, incredibly important in long irons.


Spec package
Burner 2.0 irons have perfect distance gaps from one to the next, because we tuned the loft of every head and the length of every shaft for each individual iron.


Sound system
Bruner 2.0 irons have been uniquely tuned to produce a sound (or feel) to match the power inside every iron.


CG locations
Every new Burner 2.0 iron has its own weight distribution- making every iron perform the way it is supposed to.


Inverted Cone
Every Burner 2.0 iron has been shaped differently. So, we’ve reshaped and repositioned the Inverted Cone behind every face to maximize forgiveness and distance.


Head shapes
Every iron in your bag has a different task. So we shaped every new Burner 2.0 iron differently. Longer irons have larger heads while scoring irons heads are more compact.


Sole design
Every new Burner 2.0 iron sole has been shaped to reduce ground resistance to achieve the perfect balance between sole geometry and performance.


Shafts
Every new Burner 2.0 iron shaft has a different kick-point. We placed the kick-point in every shaft exactly where it needs to be to maximize individual performance.

The long irons are easier to launch high and long, thanks to a rearward and outward weight shift(Cheap golf irons). Of course, that outward shift also improves forgiveness and brings about a greater degree of stability.



That same type of progression continues in regards to the size of the topline. The Burner 2.0 long irons have a considerable topline appearance at address though it thins in the mid irons, and even more so in the short irons. There are also improvements in the multi-functional sole from 2009's model(Cheap Golf Drivers). The heel and toe are now recessed, and the rear is beveled. These changes were made in an effort to reduce drag and encourage crisp, solid contact.



The Burner 2.0 will have two shaft options (85 gram steel or 65 gram graphite), both of which employ TaylorMade's new Flight Control shaft design. This design is said to produce higher flying shot in the long irons and help the short irons stop quickly as well.
