By: Esplin PR Now, one Harwell based military training company, Explosive Learning Solutions, is calling on businesses across the county to reward their years of service by helping them identify new career opportunities. Cath Convery, a former officer in the British Armed Forces, who founded the business in 2005, explains: “Our heritage is in defence, and we understand the challenges of the transition from military to civilian life. “Many of the servicemen and women will have seen active service in Afghanistan and Iraq and they will have excellent leadership and management skills, but they will need help to transfer these into ‘management speak’. Our experience means we can provide hands on support and training and we are also calling on other businesses in Oxfordshire to give these men and women the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise and give them the training and tools they need to work in a commercial environment.” For example, she says, translating skills learnt in the forces and using them in areas such as project or change management can be especially valuable. “We believe ex military personnel can make a significant contribution to local businesses and use their knowledge to help improve the running of an organisation, particularly in the current economic climate, where inefficiency comes at a cost,” added Cath Convery The recent announcement of The Science Vale Enterprise Zone based at Harwell and Milton Park could, she says, be a bonus for exiting military in the region and put them in a more fortunate position than their counterparts at bases elsewhere in the UK. The Zone is expected to create new businesses and an estimated 6,250 to 10,500 jobs by 2015. Cath Convery concluded: “This could provide employment for those soldiers being made redundant from Forces bases at Bicester, Dalton Barracks in Abingdon, RAF Brize Norton and RAF Benson, looking for work in the area, as well as those leaving voluntarily at the end of their military careers.” /ends For further media information contact: Louise Esplin, Esplin PR, Tel: 01235 850115 Mob: 07775 678237, email: louise@esplinpr.co.uk NOTES TO EDITORS: Explosive Learning Solutions is an Oxford based training company with unrivalled knowledge and experience in the project, change, training design and risk management fields.
