Sept. 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Senior Living Communities, a Charlotte, N.C.-based owner/operator of active adult retirement communities located in the Southeast and Midwest, announced today a new partnership with Quickwitz, a brain fitness program designed to slow and possibly prevent mental decline.

QuickWitz  is composed of hands-on, fun and interactive activities delivered by a certified QuickWitz coach.  The multi-level activities are specifically designed to target the skills most commonly impacted by aging such as long- and short-term memory, processing speed, attention/concentration, logic and reasoning, and visualization.

In contrast to traditional brain fitness software which is largely delivered via computer software, QuickWitz uses certified coaches to create an interactive environment where participants test and train their brains along with their peers.

QuickWitz owner and creator Becky McLaughlin says the partnership with Senior Living Communities is indicative of a broader national conversation about how to prevent and manage cognitive decline.

“With experts suggesting that maintaining lifelong intellectual engagement may help someone delay Alzheimer’s symptoms, older adults are making brain health a priority,” McLaughlin said.  “We’re seeing a resulting demand from progressive senior living providers to add QuickWitz to their wellness programming.”

Senior Living Communities’ Vice President of Member Services Kelly Stranburg evaluated a number of programs before ultimately choosing QuickWitz.

“Our communities offer robust wellness programs with a goal of improving both physical and mental health," Stranburg said.  "We also believe that social interaction is key to living a higher quality of life and QuickWitz gave us the ability to deliver exceptional programming with a social component.”

Senior Living Communities introduced the program to its 12 communities in September, and the classes are quickly becoming among the most popular offered.
