SpiceRoads Cycle Tours launches new multi-country tour

Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- SpiceRoads Cycle Tours has launched a new multi-country bicycle tour  – Cultural Road from Hoi An to Siem Reap – that takes in three UNESCO World Heritage sites as riders cycle 700 kilometres in 14 days from Vietnam to Cambodia. The first scheduled departure is January 8, 2012

Commencing in the port town of Hoi An, Vietnam the tour travels through the central highlands to the remote border crossing of Le Thanh and after a few days in sparsely populated Rattanakiri Province the tour carries on to end at the Angkor temple complex in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The tour will allow cyclists to explore the culture and landscape of these neighboring countries, whilst visiting historical sites such as My Son. Beginning in Vietnam, the tour heads to the central highlands where riders will cycle amongst ethnic tribes Jarai and Bhanar whose traditional ways are still preserved. On the 5th day the tour reaches Plaiku, known to be the home of the best coffee in Vietnam. Cyclists will notice how the mountainous scenery is now punctuated with tea and coffee plantations.

As the tour moves on to Cambodia, cyclists will ride beside rice paddies and through local villages to explore the Cambodian culture, as well as traveling alongside the Mekong River, where dolphins are often spotted in Kratie. Cyclists will stop at the Tourism Training Center in Stung Treng an outreach program set up in rural Cambodia where local dinner will be served. On day 12 we reach our destination of Siem Reap but explore Angkor Wat for the remainder of the trip. Angkor Wat is the main source of attraction in Siem Reap, with well preserved and expansive temples from the 12th century, which will take two days to explore.

The amount of cycling varies day to day, from cycling around temples in My Son and Angkor, to a challenging 110km day. A normal days ride can be anywhere between 50-80km. Our support van is always nearby to help with more difficult stretches, as well as serving snacks and drinks to refresh our riders.

In total, Hoi An to Siem Reap is a 700 kilometer ride which will offer mountain bikers the best views along the coast, with panoramic scenes from Viloluk Pass (1000m above sea level). Departure dates are 8 January, 5 February, 4 March, 30 September, 18 November, 23 December, all upcoming in 2012. For the majority of the trip cyclists will stay in hotel accommodation. The price is not inclusive of bike rental (an additional $165) and if you wish to stay in a private room a single supplement cost of ($425) will be added. However the price does include most meals, drinks and snack during riding time. Please check the itinerary for scheduled meals.
