Sept. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- The Legacy at Willow Bend launched National Assisted Living Week on September 11 with a special ceremony highlighted by the presentation of a proclamation by Plano Mayor Pro Tem Pat Miner on behalf of the City of Plano.  Because the kick-off event fell on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the week was appropriately themed “Forever Proud.”

“We were honored to welcome Mayor Pro Tem Pat Miner to our community to start off our celebration of National Assisted Living Week,” said Lana Van Giesen, executive director of The Legacy at Willow Bend. “He formally welcomed our community to Plano at our grand opening ceremony in 2008, so his presence makes us feel like a vital part of the community.”

The purpose of National Assisted Living Week is to provide an opportunity for friends, family and the community to come together and participate in fun activities with assisted living and memory care residents to show how important and special they are. This week offers an opportunity to create pride in assisted living communities across the nation.

“Our kick-off event included a USO show performed by Achord Trio Entertainment,” said Robin Teig, memory care life enrichment coordinator for The Legacy at Willow Bend. “The performance was a treat for residents who got to enjoy all the big-band era songs with which they grew up.”

The week’s activities at The Legacy at Willow Bend included an “All-American” dinner, several patriotic themed events, and a sports day for residents to wear their favorite team jersey while enjoying games and pizza. The week concluded with the making of care packages that will be sent to the troops, an old-fashioned dinner and episodes of old television favorites such as “Leave It To Beaver.”

The Legacy at Willow Bend, Plano’s first and only life care retirement community, is situated on a 28-acre site at Spring Creek Parkway between Preston Road and Ohio Drive. The Legacy at Willow Bend offers resort-style services and amenities for active, independent seniors, as well as all levels of health care services on-site. The community features 103 independent living apartment homes, 12 custom independent living villas, 40 assisted living apartment homes, 18 memory support suites, and 60 private skilled healthcare suites.

The Legacy at Willow Bend is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit retirement community owned by parent company, The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc. The Legacy at Willow Bend, the only Jewish-sponsored life care retirement community in Texas, is open to people of all faiths.  For information, call (972) 468-6208, or visit www.thelegacyWB.org.
