Sept. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- At Cabling Plus we understand that bullet cameras have become the most popular security camera type for home owners as installing CCTV systems at the home.  In this day and age there is no doubt that home owners are taking bigger steps to better secure their home, family, and the things that are most valuable to them.  Home owners have turned to bullet cameras because they are so simple to install while they offer numerous features that home owners really value.

A bullet camera has been given its name because of its cylinder shape and style.  Essentially you have a security camera and lens built into a weatherproof and vandal proof housing.  Because of the bullet cameras shape and configuration it offers the flexibility to be mounted almost anywhere, which really makes the installation fast and easy for a professional installer or home owner!

Bullet cameras are available will all types of optional features and configurations.  But the most common bullet cameras for home owners seem to be just the standard bullet camera with infrared capabilities. The infrared capability of a bullet camera give the home owner the ability to easily secure areas where there is little to no light available.  The built-in infrared LED’s on a bullet camera will automatically activate when the camera senses there is not enough light for it to see at its best.  So, essentially the camera is making its own light so it can perform at its full potential. Bullet cameras are available with different IR capabilities that will support various distances.  Obviously, the more LED’s available will allow the camera to view farther distances.

Another popular option on a bullet camera is the lens type.  A home owner has the flexibility to choose the best lens to support their application.  The two most common lenses on bullet cameras are fixed and varifocal lens types.  The fixed lens is usually a wide angled lens that gives you no adjustments.  So a fixed lens is basically what you see is what you get.  A varifocal lens allows you to adjust the focal length the lens (usually with a small joy-stick) to the length that best supports the area you are trying to secure.  There are varifocal bullet cameras available that allow you to accurately secure both the widest and longest distance areas.  So if you really want to dial in your bullet camera you may want to choose the one with a varifocal lens.
