Coldwell Banker Military Specialists Help Vet Buy Back Parents’ Foreclosed Home

G-II Varrato and Lori Klindera rekindle Army veteran’s home-ownership dreams

Sept. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Real estate veterans G-II Varrato and Lori Klindera have seen it all in their 25 years in the real estate industry – until recently. The husband-wife duo, both military specialists with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, helped Army veteran Jose Cordova, Jr. — a 22-year-old with tours in Afghanistan and Iraq under his belt — re-purchase his parents’ foreclosed-upon Phoenix home in September.

It all began when Cordova, Jr., then stationed as an air traffic controller in Afghanistan, connected with Varrato, also a retired U.S. Air Force veteran via email and Skype to explain he was looking for a home for his parents in Arizona. He had methodically been saving during his deployment and had put aside $35,000 to do so.  Cordova, Jr., then came across the very home he and his father had renovated together as he was growing up, for sale — the same home that in April had been taken away from his parents during his deployment.

As the process began to unfold, so did the history behind the property. It was indeed the original family home that had been sold at auction and, unbeknownst to his parents, it was now back on the market. Unbeknownst to them, their son moved forward with the purchase, and when Cordova Jr. came home in early September, he – along with Varrato and Klindera -- met them at the property, and surprised them by handing them the keys.

“They were so excited to be back in their original home,” explained Varrato. “The seller was asking $35,000 for the property that he purchased at an auction for $14,000. Once we explained the home’s history, the seller agreed to accept a $25,000 sales price.”

Varrato and Klindera were on hand to witness the move in that day, where the family had lived for 10 years. Cordova Jr. joined his father, mother, two sisters and three tiny Chihuahuas and reminisced about their childhood stories.

“I cannot thank G-II and Lori enough for all their hard work to help me and my family,” said Cordova Jr. “They were calm, honest and patient throughout the process and I’m glad they were able to help get our childhood home back.”

“Being with the family that day was one of the best days of our lives,” Varrato said. “This is why we do what we do for our military family. I don’t think we have ever been as excited to help someone buy a home as we were with this family.”

In fact, Varrato and Klindera donated 100 percent of the commission to their favorite charity, the Air Warrior Courage Foundation, under the “Sean Bryant 529 College Fund.” When two-year-old Sean Luke Bryant lost his father, F-16 Pilot Lt. Col. Frank "Bruiser" Bryant in Afghanistan this past April, Varrato and Klindera also pledged $200 per closed transaction to Sean’s college fund for the next five years.
