This strategy is based on the fact that if everyone were to have a luxury product, then they wouldn't be worth as much and the brand would decrease in value because the demand will be so little. Luxury brands have to keep their prices high to cover costs but also to keep the image and persona up too.

People these kinds of products because they see various celebrities and other people owning them and because some of these celebrities are being people that they admire like Beyonce for example, they will do just about anything to get their hands on the same product. They bother to take the time and effort to put money aside for these special products because it makes them feel good when they get their hands on.
