Oct. 5, 2011 - PRLog -- WALDWICK, NJ—October 4, 2011--Potential investors, business  buyers and government policy makers will have a unique chance to get to know the key players in the development and deployment of alternative aviation fuels at the Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuel Initiative (CAAFI) Expo in Washington, DC  Wednesday, November 30  to Thursday, December 1, 2011.

New exhibition opportunity
The CAAFI Expo is a new addition to the CAAFI General Meeting, at which more than 300 industry and government opinion leaders will gather to develop the next critical steps in making mass alternative aviation fuel production a practical reality. The General Meeting and Expo take place side-by-side at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center.

The exposition creates “an opportunity for fuel companies, feedstock suppliers, state initiatives, university researchers and supports services to explain and promote their capabilities and approaches to private and public decision-makers and potential partners and investors,” explained Rich Altman, Executive Director of CAAFI.  The General Meeting is by invitation only to the coalition’s sponsors and stakeholders of record.  Invitations are not required for the Expo.

Industry developments
Key industry developments have boosted aviation to the position of "first mover" in the next generation of green biofuels including:

•   Issuance of the White House Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future, the Administration’s framework for reducing dependence on foreign oil, this initiative focuses biofuels development and deployment on military and commercial aviation. (March, 2011)
•   Formal approval of the second biofuels type for commercial aviation biofuels  use (July, 2011)
•   Introduction of biofuels into commercial service at Lufthansa, KLM and other airlines (Summer 2011)
•   Formal initiation of the combined USDA, DOE, and Navy  $510 million investment  advanced biofuels Defense Production Act fuel acquisition program (August, 2011)
•   Multiple international aviation biofuels activity including bilateral agreements between the U.S. and both Brazil and Australia.

The president’s August announcement, in particular, is believed to be the critical step in developing the necessary manufacturing capability. “Biofuels are an important part of reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil and creating jobs here at home,” President Obama said.

The CAAFI event takes place at arguably the most important period in the industry’s development.

ABOUT THE COMMERCIAL AVIATION ALTERNATIVE FUELS INITIATIVE (CAAFI):
CAAFI is a coalition that seeks to enhance energy security and environmental sustainability for aviation through alternative jet fuels and focuses the efforts of commercial aviation to engage the emerging alternative fuels industry. It enables its diverse participants—representing all the leading stakeholders in the field of aviation—to build relationships, share and collect data, identify resources and direct research, development and deployment of alternative jet fuels.  CAAFI's global leadership has been recognized by the Air Transport World Magazine via its 2010 Joseph S. Murphy Award for Industry Service and through the award of the 2011 Washington Airports Task Force (Williams trophy) for its global achievement.
