New exhibition opportunity The CAAFI Expo is a new addition to the CAAFI General Meeting, at which more than 300 industry and government opinion leaders will gather to develop the next critical steps in making mass alternative aviation fuel production a practical reality. The General Meeting and Expo take place side-by-side at the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center. Industry developments Key industry developments have boosted aviation to the position of "first mover" in the next generation of green biofuels including: • Issuance of the White House Blueprint for a Secure Energy Future, the Administration’ • Formal approval of the second biofuels type for commercial aviation biofuels use (July, 2011) • Introduction of biofuels into commercial service at Lufthansa, KLM and other airlines (Summer 2011) • Formal initiation of the combined USDA, DOE, and Navy $510 million investment advanced biofuels Defense Production Act fuel acquisition program (August, 2011) • Multiple international aviation biofuels activity including bilateral agreements between the U.S. and both Brazil and Australia. The president’s August announcement, in particular, is believed to be the critical step in developing the necessary manufacturing capability. “Biofuels are an important part of reducing America’s dependence on foreign oil and creating jobs here at home,” President Obama said.
