Credit Union Earns Green Interest

Oct. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- HOUSTON – Partner Credit Union (PCU), a full service financial institution serving members on the Colorado Front Range, recently joined the Green Business Bureau (GBB) to become green business certified.
“We have been committed to recycling and conserving for several years,” says Cynde Fleck, PCU’s Training Manager.  “We decided it was time to let our members, and potential members, know how committed we are to protecting the environment.”
PCU employs a number of green practices, including: paperless transactions; recycling; using environmentally-safe cleaning products; installing motion sensors to control lighting; removing all plastic products (cups, utensils, plates, etc.) and replacing them with washable glassware; buying recycled products such as copy paper; and recycling office furniture by donating or selling it.  
In addition, PCU encourages its members to participate in its green initiatives by sponsoring “Community Shred Days” at its various branches.  Members are invited to bring old financial documents to be shredded and are treated to hot dogs, chips, drinks and cookies – creating a fun atmosphere while both protecting valuable personal data and ensuring that the paper it is printed on is disposed of in an environmentally-sound manner.
In fact, Fleck says that PCU is committed to being as green as possible, and getting “everyone” – its members, employees and the community – involved.  
To that end, PCU recently began exploring organizations that could endorse its green practices.  The institution chose to enroll with the GBB to achieve its green business certification.  The GBB is a nationally‐recognized, third‐party program providing certification for businesses that follow environmentally responsible practices.
“The GBB seemed genuinely interested in making sure companies were truly green, rather than just taking our money and then giving us a green seal,” says Fleck.
