Three Squares Inc. & Costa Partners Will Introduce Green Building Development Strategies To Uruguay

Three Squares Inc. will collaborate with Costa Partners to develop a sustainability plan for their first eco-conscious housing community in South America, which promises to include green building structures, rigorous preservation of natural surroundings and off-grid renewable energy installations. The innovative community of “Las Cárcavas” will be built oceanside near the quaint countryside Garzón village and the prestigious town of José Ignacio, which attracts celebrities and regional influencers alike.

The master plan includes 20 exclusive seaside residences, each with an average size of 3.7 acres of native terrain, a community center with a meditation and yoga studio, and landscaped natural surroundings home to an organic farm for the community.  The project brings together leading professionals from the UK, the United States, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina to work under one roof as a unified project team. When completed, Las Cárcavas will showcase top sustainable design strategies from around the globe, serving as a local Uruguayan example of the future of sustainable communities. The studio of renowned Sao Paulo-based architect Isay Weinfeld assisted Costa Partners in the design of the master plan and will develop a green building design for Las Cárcavas, while UK based landscape architect John Brookes will create a natural reserve that will serve as the main attraction of the 126-acre property. In conjunction with the Uruguayan government’s plan to incentivize builders to deploy solar via new tax incentives, Las Cárcavas will also implement a solar system that feeds into the national energy company’s electric grid. This will maximize the region’s natural abundance of sunlight during the peak season for occupancy. Costa Partners and Three Squares Inc. are also evaluating international green certifications to ensure that Las Cárcavas is recognized for meeting the highest levels of international sustainability standards.
