Follow on Google News | Finding True Love for Bhutan KingFairy tales do come true. In the tradition of Will and Kate, Bhutan’s fifth Dragon King has proved, once again, that love can happen to anybody.
By: Lorii Abela How to find love, even among royals, seems to be getting easier by the decade. Apparently, love can happen to anybody. Finding a soulmate, in their case, disregards all notions of status. Just this April, the world has witnessed a British royalty exchanging marriage vows with a commoner in the person of Prince William of Wales and Kate Middleton. Their experiences only suggest that a royalty can be in love with a commoner. The process of how to find love, given these two royal weddings in a year, takes place even if it is a “heaven and earth” proposition. Bhutan is a relatively recluse Himalayan country of 700,000 people located at the southeast foot of Nepal. It has never been colonized, and if present indicators were a yardstick of their propensity to open up to foreign influence, let alone Westernization, it will largely remain isolated and self-sufficient. Despite the mystical appeal of his origins, King Jigme Khesar is in fact an Oxford graduate who was crowned king in 2008 when his father, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, abdicated the throne to make way for democracy. One would think that the process of how to find love for somebody of his status would be paved with difficult choices, in as far as “the most and the best” is concerned. On the contrary, finding a soulmate for the King is child’s play – quite literally. He had already set his sights on Pema whom he had known since he was 17, and she, 7. He had proposed to her at a family picnic in the country’s capital, Thimphu. “How can I find love” is something the King knew all along. Pema, on her part, would not have found difficult the process of how to find love among people of her kind. She is the quintessential commoner that the rest of the world can relate to. She studied international affairs at London’s Regents College, and is referred to by the Dragon King as “a wonderful human being." He further added, “Jetsun Pema is a kind-hearted girl who is very supportive and whom I can trust. I cannot say how she might appear to the people, but to me, she is the one.” If the Bhutan king’s smitten look all throughout the ceremony were any indication, she will be the only one, quite a departure from tradition. The King’s father was married to four sisters. How to find love is not something to be rushed, and this seems to hold true even among royalty. One might conclude that despite their lengthy acquaintance, the King had taken a long time before finally saying “I do.” By all accounts, the King had the patience to wait for the most opportune time. This is not unlike the experience of commoners where finding a soulmate happens when they are open to it, and get married when they are ready. Apparently, love can happen to anybody, at the right time. This only proves true the maxim that in love, as in life, luck favors the prepared.
