Fourteen Mathworks HSMC Students Recognized in the Siemens Competition

Fourteen students from the Mathworks Honors Summer Math Camp receive awards in the 2011 Siemens Competition.
 
Oct. 21, 2011 - PRLog -- The first round of results in the 2011 Siemens Competition have been announced, and Mathworks continues its success!  Fourteen students representing five student research projects that were conducted during the 2011 Mathworks Honors Summer Math Camp (HSMC) have received awards in the Competition.  This continues the HSMC's tradition of advanced students working with Texas State University faculty mentors, conducting original math and science research.  Congratulations to all the students, and special thanks to the mentors!

REGIONAL FINALIST TEAMS

"On the Acyclic Subgraphs of k-majority Tournaments"

"A Mathematical Model of Structural Behaviors and Physical Properties of Polymer Nanocomposites"
George Qi, Catherine Liu, and Linda Zhang
Mentor: Professor Gary Beall (TXST Chemistry & Biochemistry Department)


The Regional Finalists will be competing at one of six Siemens Competition partnering universities in the coming weeks.  Winners from each regional competition will advance to the National Finals in Washington D.C.  

Over the past 11 years, 42 research projects conducted by Mathworks HSMC students have been recognized by the Siemens Competition.
