Foundation (Leading Education to Athletes for their Dreams) and the American Lung Association. Professional recording artists and athletes team to empower youth in San Diego with academic excellence and support those living with asthma. SAN DIEGO, CA - November 3, 2011 Larry English, starting Linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, Chairman of the Board of the L.E.A.D. Foundation and partner to the American Lung Association was diagnosed with asthma as a child. Twelve year-old Carey Poindexter, Junior Ambassador for the American Lung Association, is a severe asthmatic who was not expected to live past his 10th birthday. Carey has surpassed all odds. Both Larry and Carey will share their amazing testimonies on how they have battled lung disease in an effort to encourage others to pursue their dreams at an all-star gala fundraiser, An Evening of Champions, held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the San Diego Hall of Champions. In addition to gala host Larry English, anticipated to attend An Evening of Champions VIP meet & greet are invited NFL players and musicians. The concert features highly acclaimed recording artists including: Gene-O Cole, Earl Johnson Jr, Jason Weber, Debora Galan, Lanee Battle and many more. On Nov. 20, 2011, Carey will celebrate his 13thbirthday. His motto: “Just because you have asthma, you just can’t let it get you down.” Severe chronic asthma has hospitalized Carey 26 times, not including emergency room and doctor visits. He’s been in intensive care four times and on a respirator once. Enduring four surgeries, most recently on August 2, 2011, he takes seven medications daily to manage his asthma and other medical challenges. Carey is a Junior Ambassador to the American Lung Association and his amazing medical miracle journey has been featured on NBC and can be seen at www.medicinova.com Carey lives a normal life as he manages his medical challenges. He enjoys martial arts, video games and playing in Yu Gi Oh Tournaments. Carey’s goal is for no child to have to Fight for Air.
