Nov. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Many Florida citizens are denied the liberty of choice. Many Florida citizens are unable to afford legal help. In these dismal economic times, the choice -- to eat or pay an attorney -- is a choice that Sophie would not envy. For many, faced with a legal problem, the only choice available is to go without or go pro se.

To go pro se, to go to court without an attorney is a frightening experience. Even for those who are confident that their argument is persuasive, the mystery of procedure can be overwhelming. Successful pro se litigants immerse themselves in research and do their best to understand the arcane language and convoluted reasoning.

For pro se litigants, legal document preparers are a godsend. Legal document preparers are prohibited from offering legal advice or representing anyone in court, but the professional preparation of legal documents levels the playing field. Studies show that pro se litigants who file well prepared documents command more respect. Whether the documents were prepared by the self-litigant, or by a legal document preparer is irrelevant.

Florida Association of Legal Document Preparers, FALDP, was formed to assist pro se litigants in accessing the legal system; and to bring credibility to the legal document preparation industry. One way we further both goals is through education. We strive to educate our members about the rules surrounding the unauthorized practice of law.

On Saturday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. EST, the Florida Association of Legal Document Preparers, FALDP, is hosting a Webinar titled - the Second UPL Summit 2011. This is a Members Only webinar, and is restricted to Members of FALDP and certain approved invited guests. We have extended an invitation to selected legal document preparers from other states to compare notes on the state of UPL rules around the country. If you are a legal document preparer working in a state other than Florida and would like to attend, please contact us to request an invitation.

FALDP members are invited to attend. There is no charge for this Webinar. If you are a Florida legal document preparer and not a member of FALDP, you have time to join. Membership information is on our site at:
