eCommerce in Malaysia - more than just airline tickets

Nov. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- According to a recent survey released by SocialShout!, 62.5% of Malaysians who buy online, purchase airline tickets. No big surprise there, right? However, what is encouraging for any business hoping to sell more online, is the growth in sales of other product categories such as clothes, shoes and electronics.

The survey of users signed up to join the SocialShout! Beta found that 59.4% have bought or would buy Clothing online, 56.3% would buy Electronics online and 53.1% would buy Shoes online. All three of these categories were well ahead of Hotel Bookings at just 37.5%. The least popular item to buy online was Luggage at just 6.3%.

SocialShout!, is a new social commerce marketplace launching its Beta site in Malaysia in early December. Users earn points based on their activity across the various social networks and can then use those points to access discounts, deals and offers from partner merchants. When they redeem, a SHOUT! is automatically posted to their Facebook, Twitter, etc. , giving the merchant valuable word of mouth advertising across the social graph.
