SJM Flex SA: A key player in the global automotive industry

“If you talk to anyone in our industry and you ask them about SJM, they will tell you that what makes us different to other companies is our people,” explains Deon Joubert, the Managing Director of SJM Flex SA. “We really believe that’s what sets us apart from anyone else.”

The company boasts an average employee attendance rate of 98 percent. To achieve this, SJM Flex SA uses its on-site canteen to provide all employees with one hot meal a day, which Joubert says is an Asian philosophy. “We believe a fed employee is a happy employee. Because of high unemployment in South Africa one person could be working for a family of 10 or 12 people, so if they get a free plate of food it’s one less mouth to feed.” Impressively, SJM’s employee productivity levels are also in excess of 95 percent.
