Follow on Google News | Glen Guarino Returns to New Hope Arts CenterGlen Guarino of Guarino Furniture Designs is exhibiting three of his original furniture designs in Works in Wood 2011.
The center is well known for hosting this annual juried show. They are "dedicated to increasing awareness and support for contemporary arts and artists." New Hope has been named The Top Small Town Arts Destination in America by American Style magazine. Glen Guarino won an award for "Encore" at Works in Wood. He chose to use Red Oak, a classic wood always in fashion for the table. He rescued the wood from a fallen tree and then air-dried the lumber until ready for use. "Encore" is all about the form and is attractive in any setting. The second piece juried into the show is "Simplicity." Also at the show is "Storm," a sculptural table Guarino designed to use woods that he rescued in New Jersey from fallen trees and saved for a very special table. It takes its inspiration from shapes of tree branches swaying in the wood. Glen Guarino recently returned from The International Exposition of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art (SOFA) in Chicago. He is currently showing in Signature Artist Exhibition at Noyes Museum of Art. Signature Artist Membership is a highly competitive membership awarded to an established professional artist whose original work exemplifies the highest caliber of artistic standards. He will be exhibiting at Art Connections 8 in George Segal Gallery in New Jersey in 2012. Guarino will be a guest speaker and exhibitor at Wood Expo 2012 hosted by New England Home Show, Boston, MA where he will demonstrate several techniques he uses to make his curvilinear furniture. Guarino believes that furniture can be a form of art. When a piece is not in use it should enhance one's work or living space.
