Another Thanksgiving - How Time Flys

Nov. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- It’s hard to believe that we are getting very close to the end of another year.  The Thanksgiving Holiday starts the countdown to the start of the new year and I think it’s the best holiday of the season.  Not only is Thanksgiving uniquely American including our cousins to the North in Canada (celebrating as long ago immigrants did when they had made it through the Fall harvest and were thankful for their survival), the holiday is also neither political nor religious in nature.  With the exception of concern about how the Native American population would be treated later on by the settlers, it is a holiday that no one can have any problem with.  Taking some time to consider all of the things each of us has to be thankful for lifts the Spirits and helps us get focused on the good stuff going on – this in turn helps attract more good stuff our way.

At Our Town News we try to spend the year pointing out things to be thankful for and be happy about in our community.  There are plenty of sources of bad news and not enough for good news.  Bad news is depressing and it saps your energy and can make you feel discouraged with things in general.  We’ll stick to the good news because there is plenty of that too.  We live in a complex world that is far from perfect BUT for the most part, we live in a wonder filled world of good people.  We should all make a New Year’s Resolution to focus on the things we have to be thankful for – you’ll definitely be happier as a result.

So what are we at Our Town News thankful for?

First of all, we are thankful for the growing family of people that are a part of making our publication come together week after week.

Next, we are very thankful to all of the businesses that advertise with us and make us such a successful publication.  From people like Joe and Pam Grasso at Danny’s Meat Market (order your holiday turkeys at Danny’s!) to our official Tennis Pro Eric Kantor who trains aspiring stars and shares his tennis expertise in our pages each week.  We have our STAR Realtor, Rick Rapp who shares his insights on local real estate each week.  Then there are businesses like Gator Vacuum & Sewing, Romano’s Pharmacy, S&B Landscaping, Brookside Dental, Vogue Opticians, Ocello’s Automotive and my favorite Sushi restaurant – Yugi will treat you to a delicious feast at Nu-Sushi if you visit him over the holidays – all of these businesses have been sponsors of ours for years.  And I mean YEARS!  (we have been around since 1997 and we’re thankful for that).

Finally, we are thankful for YOU!  Without all of our loyal readers, we wouldn’t be able to do our job of being a cheerleader for the local community and bringing in business for our advertisers.   We are VERY thankful that you regularly take advantage of the great deals in our coupon book and patronize all of the others businesses promoted in the pages of our magazines.

There will be lots to be thankful for over the next few weeks and lots of fun to be had by everyone.  Gift giving, joyous religious celebrations and parties (a great place to have one would be Seven Bridges at Springtree Golf Club - a new advertiser and a great place for Sunday Brunch).  There will also be lots of family fun and sharing good times with friends.  With all the partying, we have a public service announcement from BSO reminding everyone to watch the drinking and driving – be thankful for designated drivers and taxis.

2012 is going to be a very good year – that’s an official OTN prediction!  There are going to be all kinds of great things going on at local schools and community organizations.  There will be new events - we are going to have a BizArt Festival (working title) celebrating local business and art projects.  There will be plenty more festivals and events.  Our local economy is growing… there are a lot of new businesses coming to town that we already know about.  I bet you are expecting some exciting new things to come along in your life during the next twelve months.

And then, before you know it, we’ll be back to Thanksgiving again.  SO, don’t miss any of it!  Keep that Thanksgiving spirit in every day.   How you decide to view the world creates your reality from moment to moment.  Stay in that appreciative, thankful, positive mood and there will be no way it won’t be a GREAT YEAR – very possibly more joyful, satisfying and prosperous than any year before.  Happy Holidays and every day!

OUR TOWN NEWS has been one of the local area's most popular community news magazines for over fifteen years. OTN began as a weekly newspaper in 1997 with primary distribution rotating through the four zip code zones covering Parkland and Coral Springs. In October 2010 OTN switched from a newspaper to a more accessable magazine format. Over 50,000 copies are distributed by the U.S. Post Office to area homes and businesses during each four week cycle. The OTN "Great Values" Coupon Book is included as an insertion in mailed copies of the magazine.
