Follow on Google News | Flaum Appetizing Tackles Social Justice Issues Through Online Outreach Addressing Labor DisputeFlaum Appetizing is reaching out to shoppers and peer corporations to address its 2008 labor dispute and promote its legacy of safe working conditions.
"From day one, the owners of Flaum's have been dedicated to producing quality kosher foods, providing a safe working environment, and supporting charitable causes. Through our increased publicity measures, we are hoping to help consumers and fellow business owners learn the real story about our company, which has been obscured by the false complaints of a very small group of employees," said Flaum Appetizing's Aryeh Silbert. Flaum's is encouraging the public to visit RealFlaums.com and the kosher foods company's social profiles to learn more about its legacy and current practices. Located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the Flaum's 20,000-square- The 2008 labor dispute was the first and only dispute in the company's history of nearly 100 years, and Flaum's is using its marketing efforts to help educate the public about the relative smallness of the situation. The labor dispute concerned just 11 employees, Silbert noted, representing 15% of the company's total labor force, and a much smaller portion of the thousands of employees that have served Flaum's since its founding, in addition to the kosher foods manufacturer's Sonny & Joe's brand. "Although social justice issues are relatively common in the food production industry, the Flaum's labor dispute received a disproportionate amount of attention due to the agenda of the International Workers of the World (IWW). The IWW has spread misinformation about our working conditions and our handling of the labor dispute; Flaum's has acted in total accordance with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), although the IWW has alleged otherwise," Silbert said.
