The Advent season is a time of celebration in the Catholic Church. To look forward to Jesus’ coming into our lives, the Jesuits of New England have produced a four part podcast series. Five Jesuits offer guidance on how to use Ignatian spirituality and practices during the Advent season.
“These podcasts are a way for Catholics to engage themselves more deeply in their faith and Ignatian spirituality during our Church’s most joyful season,” said Alice Poltorick, Director of Communications at the province. “Because episodes are only 10 minutes each, people can listen via the web during the day, or download the podcasts to their MP3 players for their commute or perhaps a walk in the park.” We are grateful to Boston College graduate student, Shane Ulbrich, for recording, editing and producing the Advent podcasts.
The Podcasts
In the first podcast, Fr. Jack Butler, SJ, Fr. Robert Farrell, SJ, and Fr. Michael Boughton, SJ, speak about Ignatian Spirituality, Advent themes and practices, and “Anticipatory Joy.”  
The second podcast episode features Fr. Jack Butler, SJ, and Fr. Michael Boughton, SJ, explaining the Examen and the importance of being more aware of God’s action in everyday life.  
Fr. Joseph Laramie, SJ, guides a meditation on the Incarnation and the Angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary that she would bear the Son of the Most High.” (Luke 1:32) He utilizes St. Ignatius’ method of slowly reading and praying with Scripture known as “Imaginative Prayer.”
The final podcast episode features Fr. William Russell, SJ, and Fr. Michael Boughton, SJ, offering their thoughts on living in gratitude, giving gifts and caring for the poor during Advent and at Christmas.
