Vitrefusion; WHEN AND WHERE Group show at the Museum Gallery: 12th December - 18th December 2011 , between 10.00am - 7.00 pm METHOD Fine coloured glass powder is fused on metal by firing it in the kiln at high temperatures. To make an artwork,one needs to layer it repeatedly and re-fire it.These pieces are unique,as it is difficult to make identical pieces. DETAILS In Vitrefusion exhibition eight artists come from different fields have expressed themselves in vitreous enamel in very different ways and put all the effort together to put up this medium on the map of contemporary art field. Veenu Shah, one of the pioneers of this medium in India, has travelled throughout the world and is bringing out the new possibilities of the medium to use it into mobile and 3D sculptural art forms. It is a very inspiring step for all the upcoming enamellers. Being an artist Vipta Kapadia has explored the possibilities of the medium on panels mostly in black & white and various rich effects of fluxes on 3d copper surfaces. Jyotsna Singh, a trained potter, is fascinated by textures and formed 3D copper surface where she plays with variety of fluxes and few sophisticated transparent color shades. Practiced with many mediums and techniques in art Ritu Sangal has used vitreous enamel more effectively in her work. Mostly the spiritual subjects are nicely depicted in cloisonné and painter's techniques. Anindita Kishore, with civil service background, is very much fascinated with vitreous enamel and has given a new direction to her creative expression. She uses this medium in more experimental way than a conventional painter. Gunjan Cowlagi, basically is a jewellery designer and an artist who paints on canvas. She is inspired by the experimental qualities of vitreous enamel on 3D art forms. and She has crossed the boundaries of 2D flat surfaces and explored 3D wall and sculptural forms. Triveni Mahajan is a trained chartered accountant and jewellery designer by profession and is fascinated by jewel like qualities of the vitreous enamels surface and endless possibilities of exploration. She explored the richness of various techniques of enameling in her own way. Kana Lomror, a trained fine artist, has taken the vitreous enamel into new direction where he combines the two mediums together on canvas that create dimension. He also has shown further experimentations on 3D art forms. End
