Dec. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- We, at Colen MD Plastic Surgery in New York have been using the Ulthera for quite some time.  Ulthera is a treatment that is noninvasive and can be done under locally applied anesthetic which is in the form of a cream.  The machine uses ultrasound technology to tighten the skin of neck or jowls and flattens the crows feet wrinkles of eyes with incredible success in 60% of people and moderate success in 40%.  Of course like anything else, results depend on skin type of the person and the severity of the laxity or wrinkling.  However, it is worth trying should you want to get rid of some annoying folds of skin. Usually, however, even if our skin is tighter we still require some filling of deeper folds, like those around the nose, corners of mouth and around the lower eyelids.  Well, that can easily be done with Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse.  Radiesse can be injected deeper into the tissues and the Restylane and juvederm to more superficial wrinkles or can be done in combination with Radiesse. The Radiesse can be injected deep at the base of the skin and the Juvederm or Retylane on top of it. Of Course, if one does not want filler from the bottle, we can use one's own fat.  We remove some of the person's own fat with a small hand held cannula and process it in the office and inject it to all those unwanted furrows.  Sometime we mix the fat with Platelet rich plasma (PRP) which has some concentrated person's own natural growth factor in it  which improves the skin quality as well.  All these modalities may need to be repeated every five months or so depending on the person's metabolism and absorption rate.  
Many complain of persistent wrinkles above the lip. Those can be addressed with a Fraxel laser or plain dermabrasion or even a chemical peel. Yes, one of those old fashioned chemical peels that we paint on the skin and then the old wrinkled skin peels off leaving behind a smooth new version.  
Of course we also must use Botox. Botox is best used on wrinkles that are caused by repeated muscle movements, like frowning, or smiling, or squinting.  The Botox injected is safe as the dosage is adjusted to be harmless health-wise. The Botox is a neurotoxin which paralyzes the muscles causing these unwanted wrinkles and so the wrinkles go away.  Of course getting all the muscles paralyzed would not be great and one would look like wearing a mask without expression.  Therefore, the art of injection of course is knowing how much to inject and where to render an aesthetic result rather than a mask-like appearance.
We love the Fraxel as it removes age spots, and also smoothes the skin.  Everyone loves fresh and healthy skin.  Maintaining a good condition and  quality of  skin is very important. Fraxel is also performed under local anesthetic and often patients like to have four or five treatments in one year. It works every time no matter what type of skin one has.
However, exposure to sun should be limited as the sun continues to damage the skin no matter how many treatments one undergoes. Now we have something new to offer for those who have achieved a great looking face but have stored fat around the abdomen and love handles.  As a matter of fact there could be stored fat in other places as well that we feel like grabbing and cutting it off and throwing it away.  Today we have a machine where we can put that roll of fat and during the hour while the fat is in the machine it gets cooled till it is destroyed.  There is no damage to skin or any other tissue.  That fat after about a month gets absorbed by the body and discarded leaving our abdomen or love handles or any of the other nagging rolls at least 25% thinner.  The treatment can be repeated till all the fat is gone.
