By: Lora McCoy, NarroWay Productions The 130-year-old town of McAdenville has been decorating the entire town with Christmas lights for the past 56 years. Time Magazine recently listed McAdenville in "The 9 Most Christmassy Towns in America." McAdenville was also acknowledged in Yahoo! Travel's top 10 destinations for holiday lights this Christmas season. The town is known around the world as "Christmas Town USA." The Yule Log Ceremony at McAdenville began in 1950. Residents and visitors follow the yule log as it is pulled through the town by the town children. The parade ends in Legacy Park where the yule log is placed in an open fireplace and lit, the fire representing the light of the Christ-child savior. Guests then join in for the singing of Christmas carols and listen as the Christmas story is re-told. This year, performers from NarroWay will join in the yule log ceremonies to tell the Christmas story, lead the Christmas carols and create a touching nativity scene to remember the night of the first Christmas. For 2011, McAdenville also decided to add something new to the town's long-standing Christmas traditions. Instituting the inaugural "Christmas Town Festival," representatives from McAdenville contacted NarroWay Productions to provide the culminating activities for the new event. The goal was to add events that would attract guests to do more than drive through the town, and yet not "commercialize" The "Christmas Town Festival" features live entertainment in Legacy Park, the town's new public park located in the heart of downtown McAdenville. Entertainment begins at 6pm on each of the first three Saturday nights in December. Free hot drinks and kettle-cooked popcorn are readily available for the first 1000 guests, and Santa is onsite until 9pm. As the festival culminates, NarroWay Productions will be onsite December 17 from 6pm until 10pm. Live animals, a cast of biblical characters and outstanding vocalists will bring to life a live nativity scene from 6pm until 9pm. Then at 9pm, the town will host a featured performance of NarroWay's original Christmas production, "The Nativity Set." The show is an inspiring hour-long musical drama that encourages the audience to keep the real meaning of Christmas alive all year long. "The Nativity Set," along with all "Christmas Town Festival" activities, is free to the public. Guests should plan to be at Legacy Park before 9pm to enjoy the show.
